Google's Search Engine Update History

google

Beginning Of Google

Google search engine, as a research project of Mr. Larry Page and Mr. Sergey Brin (in 1996), the P.H.D students of Stanford university. In 1996 march Larry’s web crawler started to crawl the webpage. At their starting time they had only one page for crawling, named Stanford home page. It worked on the basis of page rank algorithm, which would produce better result than existing techniques. The existing search engines results were displayed on the basis of how many times the search term appeared on the page. The google.com domain was registered on 15th September 1997 and they officially incorporated their company, Google, on 4th September 1998.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin was founded google in 1996

Important SEO Updates

In the year 2000, Google started their advertisement associated with search keywords. But the Google bots had difficulties to crawl these websites. These made improper search result for the users. At that time, Google held meetings for their officials and decided to change their strategy for webmasters. That leads to the development of niche specific sites or content oriented sites. That created more problems as the developers concentrated only on site content with keyword stuffing unnecessarily and that leads to websites with poor quality, low speed etc.

After that, Google created link specific (back links) strategy for webmasters.  At that time webmasters did not concentrated on quality based links; and bought links from third party websites.  These links did not increase the quality of website .Google created web spam team for handling these types of issues. They gave instructions to webmasters and created a quality link specific website. Page rank was the main factor for search engine result at this time. Now page ranking is hidden or avoided by Google. A good page ranked site maintains 10/10 page score. At this time high quality page ranked site will give link (equity pass) to other site and improper sites were listed on the top. To overcome these issues Google introduce link juice, “no follow” and “do follow” links. “No follow” links did not pass equity to other sites.

In 2009 Google changed the algorithm on the basis of user interaction and gave personalized result for each user.

Google introduced panda updation in 2011. It was an important update in the google's search engine history. It was a content spamming related updation. Panda updation avoided keyword stuffing, content duplication, low quality contents, spelling and grammar mistakes. The spammed contents are stored in ‘sandbox’. It’s a temporary storage space in Google. Tinny pages are another type of content spamming, that contain less amount of content in published pages. In 2014 Google made panda 4.0 as a permanent filter in the Google algorithm. Panda update

In 2012 Google introduced penguin updation. It was a link spam related updation. That avoids paid links; adding links in low quality website and forums, comment spamming, sneaky links etc.
